Visiting students participating in the Neuroposium program are welcomed to TMIC Li’s laboratory at the University of Alberta, where they engage in immersive learning experiences aimed at deepening their understanding of TMIC as Canada’s national metabolomics core facility and technology development centre and exploring cutting-edge technologies developed by Li’s node. The team is engaged in research concerning neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s diseases. Furthermore, Li’s laboratory has been working to explore metabolomic and lipidomic levels, which show great promise in enhancing our understanding of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The Neuroposium program is designed with the mission of promoting neuroscience education among high school and junior high school students, aiming to ignite a passion for neuroscience and inspire the next generation of neuroscientists. Through engaging presentations and hands-on experiences, the symposium aims to enlighten young minds about the intricacies of brain health and the realities of pursuing scientific endeavors within a university setting. Scheduled as a day-long event at the University of Alberta, the symposium will offer a diverse array of activities including guest speakers, research presentations, career panel discussions, workshops, and potentially a competition element. This comprehensive program seeks to provide a comprehensive and enriching experience for youth with an interest in neuroscience and its related fields.
